R.I. Supreme Court to hear appeal of Champlin’s Marina case

The Champlin’s Marina expansion case is heading back to court.
The Rhode Island Supreme Court has agreed to hear Champlin’s appeal of the state Superior Court’s decision — handed down in February — that denied Champlin’s application to expand into the Great Salt Pond, according to attorney Dan Prentiss. Prentiss is representing the Committee for the Great Salt Pond, the Town of New Shoreham, The Land Trust and the Block Island Conservancy.
The decision by the state Supreme Court was issued yesterday, said Prentiss, and typically no reason is given for the decision to hear the appeal.
The case has been in court for about 17 years, with defeats and victories on both sides, before the State Superior Court rejected Champlin’s application in February.
Prentiss said he expected oral arguments will be held, and a decision will be handed down, sometime in 2021.
This is a developing story. — Lars Trodson
