Taxi board rejects point-to-point, raises rates

Block Island experimented with a point-to-point shuttle service in the summer of 2021. The program was not a resounding success, according to the report given by Judy Clark to the Motor Vehicles for Hire Commission. Clark organized and ran the program for the summer, and provided a wealth of information to thecommission on February 16.
The Point-to-Point program was developed in response to a plan floated to the Town Council in which the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority would provide trolley buses for public transportation on Block Island. The commission, along with numerous townsfolk, impressed upon the Town Council their desire that a shuttle service be developed and run by islanders rather than by the state.Clark told the group that she began the season with two shuttles running point-to-point in opposite directions, with one leaving from the statue of Rebecca, andone leaving from Champlin’s Marina. There were stops at Fred Benson Town Beach, The Oar, and Dead Eye Dick’s in between.
