The Block Island sailing season will get a proper kickoff with two special events scheduled for the Saturday, May 26 of Memorial Day Weekend.
The first is the Block Island Community Sailing Open House Event at the Block Island Boat Basin from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at which BICS welcomes everyone interested in sailing on the island to come down, meet our directors, learn about the programs, and go for a sail in one of the new Raven 24 One Design sloops that will be sailing in the programs this summer. Block Island Community Sailing is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to make the sport of sailing available and affordable to everyone.

The second event is the Block Island Yacht Club’s Sailing Season Kickoff event at the National Hotel from 5 to 7 p.m.
This event, which is sponsored by the Block Island Yacht Club and the National Hotel, is now in its fourth year and starts with a social gathering with hors d’ouevres and a cash bar, followed by presentations from Block Island Community Sailing and other island sailing organizations that will describe their programs and welcome participation. After the sailing program introductions, there will be a brief slide show on the Racing Rules of Sailing presented by Block Island Community Sailing, the organizing authority for Thursday Night Sailing, the Mary D. Regatta, and the BIYC Around the Island Pursuit Race.
Anyone interested in learning to sail, sharpening their sailing skills, or participating in competitive sail racing on Block Island this summer is invited.
