Varsity boys slug their way to a win

Starting pitcher David Barillas got all the run support he needed in the first inning, as his team pounded out 15 hits on their way to a 17-0 home win against the Grove School on Tuesday, May 22.
Barillas baffled Grove hitters throughout the afternoon with well-located fastballs and big breaking balls. Barillas struck out six and surrendered only an infield hit in his impressive outing. He did not issue a walk. The right hander’s battery mate, Nick Phillips, was masterful behind the dish. Phillips flawlessly presented borderline pitches as strikes while making thoughtful pitch selection decisions.
Cole McGinnis and Mathias Heinz paced Block Island with three hits apiece. Jostin Blanco, Andrew McGarry and Phillips added to the hit parade as they each stroked two knocks of their own.
In his pitching debut, “Super Jack” Connell hurled a scoreless fifth inning to wrap things up for the Hurricanes.
